Single Wall vs Double Wall: Which Insulated Bottle Do You Need?
Not every steel bottle is doing the same job, even if they look similar on a shelf. The construction underneath the surface makes all the difference to how it performs, and picking the wrong one for your routine means either paying for insulation you don’t need, or missing out on it when you do.
Single-wall bottles are exactly what they sound like — one layer of steel between your drink and the outside world. They’re lighter, usually more affordable, and great for everyday hydration where temperature isn’t the priority. If you’re refilling from a cooler or tap through the day and just want something durable and leak-proof, single-wall does the job well.
Double-wall (vacuum-insulated) bottles have two layers of steel with a sealed vacuum gap between them. That gap is what stops heat transfer, keeping cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot for hours instead of minutes. They’re the better fit if you’re carrying chilled water on a long commute, hot tea on a trek, or anything where the temperature at 6pm should still resemble the temperature at 9am.
A quick way to decide: if you’ll finish the bottle within an hour or two of filling it, single-wall is fine. If it needs to hold its temperature across a full day — office, travel, outdoors — double-wall insulation earns its keep.
Selltons Steel offers both constructions across our range, so the choice comes down to your day, not a compromise on quality.
